Hi, I’m Cindy – queer wedding planner and owner of Aisle Less Traveled.
When I started my business, I didn't know much about the wedding industry, and what little I did know irritated the crap out of me!
Why? Because it was centered around straight, white, thin, wealthy folks and gave virtually no space to the entire rest of humanity. Furthermore, as a whole, it seemed to insist that every wedding should follow a predetermined formula full of patriarchal traditions, rigid gender roles, and a predictable format of ceremony - cocktail hour - reception.
So I set out to change that. Taking everything I knew from my previous career planning and producing live theatre, I decided to make space for the creative, alternative, feminist, LGBTQ+ weddings that were missing from the mainstream.
Well over a decade later, I've changed a few minds and marriage equality has become the law of the land, but the wedding industry is pretty much the same. Wedding planner training/certification programs are even more antiquated and have barely moved out of the last century.
Once again, I'm compelled to make change. I would love to see a new wave of open-minded, inclusive, imaginative wedding planners out there in the world, making magic and learning the art of saying YES to what our clients want, even as the industry says no.
So I'm taking everything I know about planning weddings (and it’s a lot – I’ve been planning events since 1997!) and putting it into a comprehensive wedding planner training program for the next generation.
You are getting on the list to be in my very first class! Which means you’ll have the chance to help shape what this program is and make sure it includes the things you most need to learn. I am honestly thrilled AF to meet you and teach you and welcome you onto the team of wedding planners fighting for a better world!
